I sound like my parents.

Dear Marlee,

You are special, unique, and beautiful. Don’t you ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

Smile. You light up the whole room when you do.

Love and be loved.

Continue to learn and continue to question, curiosity makes you smart and keeps you ahead.

Forgive those who deserve it and forget those who do not.

You hold the whole world in your hands. You can be anything you wish and go anywhere you want.

Travel. The world is your oyster kid, and you are it’s pearl.

Practice kindness. To yourself as well as others.

Treat others as you expect to be treated.

Read, watch movies, wander through art galleries and live through others’ experiences as well as your own.

Remember the TEN rule when talking to people. True, Encouraging and Necessary?

Be loyal.

Remember that first impressions do count.

Do not settle for a partner that is of lesser intelligence. They will somehow make you feel inadequate.

Listen. Especially to your instincts, they are right more often than we give them credit for.

Love your family, they are the friends you will keep the longest.

Wear sunscreen.

Do not judge people unless you can handle them judging you.

Drink responsibly.

Sing, with the radio, in the shower and in the car. It can make you feel good.

And above all –

Please, do as I say. Not as I do.

Love you always.
